Why I love Baltimore? Well it’s a long story. Baltimore and I have been in a long term relationship since I was a little girl. I wore a Ravens onesie as an infant and Orioles sunglasses as a toddler. I rode on the dragon boats and shopped at the harbor for as long as I can remember. Since I lived in Columbia we would only go downtown on special occasions, however, Baltimore and I took our relationship a little further when I went to Notre Dame of Maryland University.
The moment that I walked on Notre Dame’s campus I knew that it was the place for me. I had never seen such a beautiful campus. I spent the most memorable four years there and in the process Baltimore became my home away from home. I explored places like Federal Hill, The Black in Wax Museum, and Dicks Last Resort. Baltimore was a place where I have been able to break out of my shell and try new foods, meet new people, and find who I really was. As a student at Notre Dame I transformed into a leader who was strong and passionate about everything I did. I was able to be a part of many things and even start my own acapella group.
I now live in Columbia and have started working at another university. Columbia is an amazing place to live and grow up as well. I live so close to Merriweather Post Pavilion that I can hear all of the awesome artists and bands that come and play for free from my back yard almost every weekend during the summer. I enjoyed being so close to the lake for art festivals, shopping at one of the best malls, and eating at some of the most amazing restaurants all of my life . My childhood favorite was always Tomato Palace on the Lake. But one of the best parts of living in Columbia is the convenience of being so close to both Baltimore County and the City and being able to drive to both places in 30 minutes or less.
So, my love affair with Baltimore isn’t over. Baltimore has a special place in my heart and was a place full of firsts for me. It was the place where I first tried Indian food, where I had my first drink, where I received my first car, and where I truly fell in love for the first time. It is really the perfect place for food, family, and fun. I love the hubcaps at Nacho Mamas, the amazing burgers at Shake Shack, dinner cruises in the harbor, the Pride festival, and the crazy sugar high at Its Sugar. Baltimore is a place I will raise my family and will always be home.
