Jennifer Dodson is the Chief Creative Officer and Owner of Adashmore Creative. She is also a professor at Maryland Institute College of Art and Towson University.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BALTIMORE?

It has spunk and personality. We’ll always root for the home team and will never accept that Boh isn’t still from Baltimore.

WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY ABOUT YOUR WORK?

Love what you do and give it your all. When you get a break, take it. Find a way to unplug completely at least a few times a year. You’ll come back stronger than before you left.

WHAT IS IT LIKE OWNING A MARKETING AGENCY IN BALTIMORE COUNTY?

Everyday there is something different. There is unlimited potential if you know where to look.

HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE OTHERS?

I motivate others by speaking at events and individually mentoring young professionals. I am a teacher at MICA and Towson University. I also think people are inspired by what I’ve accomplished and it motivates them to try harder.

WHAT MOBILE APP CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?

Pinterest! I’m glad this wasn’t a thing when I got married. I did it the old fashioned way with Google Image searches and folders of saved images. Now that we’re moving, Pinterest is providing lots of ideas.

HAVE YOU GOTTEN A LOT OF SUPPORT FROM BALTIMORE COUNTY AND THE STATE OF MARYLAND?

I was able to access information about starting a business in Maryland on numerous government websites. We joined the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce for networking and educational opportunities. The Maryland State Chamber of Commerce also opened doors for us.

WHERE DO YOU TAKE OUT OF TOWN GUESTS TO GIVE THEM A FEEL FOR WHAT BALTIMORE IS ABOUT?

Fells Point. It’s a good mix of bars, characters, and city views.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH SPOTS IN BALTIMORE COUNTY?

The Wine Merchant has amazing sandwiches. Nalley Fresh has good salads. Andy Nelson’s is perfect when I don’t care about calories.

WHO HAS INSPIRED YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Marcus Lemonis is a great example of how to build something, expand into complementary businesses, and still be approachable.

WHAT IS A HASHTAG THAT SUMS UP YOUR PERSONALITY?

#WhatNow. I am constantly on the run, getting into new things. From opportunities to advance my career to seemingly fictional experiences, my life is always an adventure. Our vacations are the most interesting: lost luggage, cruise ship fires, hotel crime scenes, rental car breakdowns, and more. I live a very interesting and spontaneous life. You never know what’s going to happen!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR COMPANY?

Our culture. It’s a mix of what motivates us, how we work, and what differentiates our company.

WHAT WORDS OF WISDOM DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHERS JUST STARTING THEIR CAREER OR CONSIDERING OPENING THEIR OWN BUSINESS?

Never stop learning. Even if you just graduated there is still a lot more to learn. Always look for ways to improve, and seek advice from others. Trust your gut. At the end of the day you can only do so much research before you have to make a decision; you need to be able to trust your instinct. Go for it! You never know what’s going to happen, at least be able to say you tried.
